catalogue
Eight Tomoyasu Murata films join the catalogue, from Nostalgia (2000) to NHK's Luka and the Flower of the Sun
The catalogue already held five films by Tokyo puppet animator Tomoyasu Murata, but only under English TMDB titles and with no credits. They are Tug-Tug (1998), Scarlet Road (2002), Family Deck (2007), A Branch of a Pine Is Tied Up (2017) and When You Wish Upon A Star (2021). His TMDB filmography lists 33 directing credits, and today eight more of his stop-motion films were added wherever a source states the technique. Nostalgia (睡蓮の人, 2000) is a puppet film that won an Excellence Prize at the Japan Media Arts Festival. White Road (2003), Indigo Road (2006) and Lemon's Road (2008) complete his 'Road' series, which began with Scarlet Road, an award winner at Hiroshima 2002. The Forest This Flower Blooms (2016) opens his five-part series on memories of life and death made after the 2011 earthquake. Haikyuu!! Puppet Animation (2020) is a 26-minute puppet film that came bundled with volume 42 of the Haikyu!! manga, written by Taku Kishimoto. The other two are the 2022 short When Spring Comes: The Story of Yugo, A Little Bear and Luka and the Flower of the Sun (2024), which mdpr calls NHK's first long-form stop-motion animation; Kishimoto also wrote it. All five earlier films now credit Murata as director, and the Japanese titles are recorded. His music videos and live-show screen films are not catalogue works and were not added.
