The catalogue currently holds 3531 public works, 17133 public people and 25684 published credits. Internal title, part and version records remain preserved without inflating the public work count. It is incomplete by design and tracks its own gaps in public: the research queue lists works that still need a verified studio or crew credits, and the coverage audit, progress scorecard and credit network show how complete the record is. High priority means recent works, especially post-2020 titles without credits.

SMDB is building toward an academic-grade, source-cited reference in which every factual field can be traced to evidence. The current database is not universally complete at that standard yet: records expose their verification state and available sources, while gaps stay visible for further research. Official sites, press kits, end-credit rolls and reliable databases are preferred according to the evidence being recorded. See the methodology for the sourcing and verification standards.

The wiki is a growing, source-backed glossary for the things used in stop motion: capture techniques, animated subjects, background construction and physical materials. It is being built toward the same traceable-reference standard as the catalogue; published coverage remains incomplete. Broad concepts stay together until their source coverage is large enough to split.

Rights holders, studios, creators and researchers can add, claim or correct an entry through the reviewed forms on the submit page. Ordinary contributors stay on stopmotiondatabase.com; repository-side review and publication happen behind the site.
