Ball Face becomes first film to win four awards in one year at OIAF
Laurence Thérien's clay-animated student short Ball Face won four prizes at the 50th Ottawa International Animation Festival: the Public Prize, Canadian Student Award, Bento Box Award for Best Student Animation, and Hélène Tanguay Award for Humour. Animation World Network reports that the sweep made Ball Face the first film in OIAF history to receive four awards in a single year.
The result adds a major Ottawa milestone to the Royal College of Art graduation film's 2026 festival run. OIAF's awards were presented September 26 at the National Arts Centre during the festival's 50th-anniversary edition; the festival's published award structure identifies the Public Prize as an audience-selected honour and the Canadian Student Award as its award for outstanding Canadian student animation work.
