Dragonframe's development branch expands its Python scripting API
Dragonframe's public development-branch changelog has moved into a new 2027.01 build cycle, and alongside small interface refinements (new Arc orbit-tool graphics, a +/- control on point-of-view directions) it adds three Python scripting additions: event callbacks now receive a full event object, an optional reference-layer parameter, and an optional DRAGONFRAME_PYTHONPATH environment variable for extending where the app looks for Python modules. A parallel 2026.04 build fixed the Arc workspace crashing when dragged between windows.
Python has quietly been Dragonframe's extension point for studio and hobbyist tooling since well before Arc's robotic-arm support existed; these additions widen what a script running inside Dragonframe can see and configure, rather than adding a headline feature. Update (2026-09-04): the same dev-branch changelog turns out to have several earlier 2027.01 entries this story's first pass missed. Chief among them: "Added python + pyside integration" (build 18132), the first documented way for a Dragonframe Python script to build its own Qt-based UI panel inside the app rather than only trigger existing commands. Also newly folded in: a Command+E/Control+E hotkey to toggle to the Cinematography workspace and back (build 18084); util.executeInMainThread/executeInMainThreadWithResult and ui.setMenuOptionChecked/isMenuOptionChecked for scripts (build 18163); scene.openFile and a TakeOpened event (build 18220); and, tightening rather than expanding the surface, a DRAGONFRAME_PYTHONPATH-only module-loading isolation plus a new DRAGONFRAME_PYTHON_INIT startup variable (builds 18385/18396). Folded into the Wiki's Dragonframe page.
