Frame Fest to stage Ireland's first dedicated stop-motion festival in Connemara
Frame Fest is scheduled for 29–30 August 2026 at Stiúideo Fia in Lettermore, County Galway, presenting what its organisers describe as Ireland's first festival devoted specifically to stop-motion animation. The free bilingual event is structured around screenings, practitioner talks, workshops and open-studio access, giving audiences a direct view of puppets, miniature sets and works in progress rather than treating the craft only as a finished-screen experience.
The announced programme connects local participation with international production knowledge. It includes sessions involving artists associated with Aardman Animations, MacKinnon & Saunders, Telegael, Nexus Studios and Elk Studios, alongside a screening and production discussion for Captain Morten and the Spider Queen. Dedicated awards for stop-motion shorts, craft and Irish-language work also make the festival a useful new point of discovery for emerging filmmakers and regional production activity.
