Annecy 2026 puts stop-motion center stage: honorary Cristal for the Brothers Quay, 50th-anniversary Aardman tribute
The 2026 Annecy International Animation Film Festival gave stop-motion a headline role: honorary Cristal Awards went to the Brothers Quay, credited by artistic director Marcel Jean with revolutionizing the medium in the 1980s amid what he called a current stop-motion revival; Aardman Animations received a tribute marking its 50th anniversary; and Travis Knight attended for the first time to present footage from LAIKA's 'Wildwood', already in the catalogue with a full crew list.
