Insectario expands into a four-country stop-motion co-production

Mexican filmmaker Sofía Carrillo's first stop-motion feature, Insectario, has expanded its production network with Canada's Productions Ocho and Latvia's Trickster Pictures joining Mexico's Pimienta Films and Spain's Inicia Films. The new structure brings producer and Flow co-writer Matīss Kaža into the project and adds Canadian stop-motion and post-production capacity alongside Latvian CG artists.

The announcement shows how an auteur stop-motion feature can be assembled across several national support systems rather than within a single studio. Telefilm Canada and the National Film Centre of Latvia are named as funding partners, while the production had already received Ibermedia Next support and appeared in the Annecy Animation Showcase at Cannes. The film is targeting 2028, and its evolving network makes it a useful lead for mapping Mexican, Spanish, Canadian and Latvian production relationships around physical animation.
