Kevin Parry animates an office chair ‘driving’ itself in stop motion

Independent stop-motion animator Kevin Parry built a short scene of an office chair ‘driving’ itself through a room and into a chase, shot as 444 still photographs over 10 days, as reported by 80.lv (Stephanie Almogabar, 2026-07-20) drawing on Parry's own making-of video. Parry worked from a sketch and a written screenplay before shooting, used a half-circle protractor to keep the camera's arc consistent between shots, moved the chair roughly two floorboard-widths per frame to keep its motion readable, and built practical smoke from crumpled paper, bedsheets and cotton rather than a digital effect, with colour-changing gelled lighting standing in for passing emergency lights; shadow work was added across the floor and ceiling in post to sell the motion. Folded into the Wiki's Object animation page as a solo-animator counterpart to its commissioned-brand example.
