PFCAT 2026 brings more than 30 stop-motion works to Portland

The Portland Festival of Cinema, Animation & Technology will run August 18–23, 2026 at OMSI with a programme of more than 170 films from 31 countries. Animation World Network reports that the six-day lineup includes more than 130 animated works, more than 30 stop-motion works, two stop-motion features and more than 30 world premieres, making stop motion a substantial strand rather than a single award category or sidebar.

For SMDB, the programme is also a useful discovery surface: a festival with multiple stop-motion-specific awards and dozens of selected works can expose independent films, student productions and makers that are poorly indexed elsewhere. The official festival film guide and 2026 awards pages should therefore be mined exhaustively after the event, preserving technique verification and maker/partner distinctions title by title rather than assuming every animated selection is stop motion.
