SMOF 2026 adds Núcleo Latam animation market to its stop-motion festival
The ninth SMOF International Animation Festival ran in Buenos Aires from 20–26 July 2026 with almost 100 stop-motion shorts in competition, screenings, premieres, workshops, masterclasses and the eighth Latin American Stop Motion Laboratory. The programme positioned the festival as both an exhibition platform and a training structure for regional makers, with fourteen projects in development receiving individual consultations and competing for production-support awards.
The major structural addition was Núcleo Latam, presented as the first Latin American animation market. It brought producers, studios, distributors, platforms and institutions together to develop co-production and circulation opportunities across the region. For SMDB, this is more than a festival result: it identifies a recurring discovery node where projects, producing companies, training networks and cross-border partners can be mapped before they become visible in English-language trade coverage.
