SMOF 2026 opens a week of stop-motion screenings and training in Buenos Aires
SMOF 2026 runs from 20–26 July across Buenos Aires, presenting an international competitive programme centred on stop-motion animation. The festival combines short-film screenings with laboratories, workshops, exhibitions, clinics, seminars, retrospectives, conferences and talks, with activities designed for both emerging makers and the wider public.
The ninth edition also frames education and access as part of its industry role: its official materials describe the programme as free and focused on audiovisual training, while the competition includes Latin American and international stop-motion shorts, documentary animation, music videos and an audience award. The festival's 2026 identity spot is itself a crafted production, with credited work spanning direction, character design, felting, costume, 3D printing, photography and motion control.
