Annecy 2026 aftermath: Brothers Quay honorary Cristal, Anna Mantzaris wins first-film prize, new stop-motion features surface
Cartoon Brew's post-Annecy roundup confirms stop-motion had an outsized presence at the 2026 festival: the Brothers Quay received honorary Cristal Awards, Anna Mantzaris' puppet short 'Please' (starring the voice of Stellan Skarsgard) won the Jean-Luc Xiberras Award for a First Film, and Aardman marked its 50th anniversary with a slate reveal covering Let's Go Timmy!, Danger Delilah, and the previously-announced Pokemon Tales project (now with confirmed director Tom Parkinson). New Zealand's first stop-motion feature, Kiri and Lou Go Raaa!, and Mexican director Sofia Carrillo's four-country co-production Insectario also premiered/showcased at Annecy with fuller credit details than were on file. All of these already existed in the catalogue from a prior enrichment pass; today's sweep chain-enriched their credits (see the catalogue entry above).
