Ambriz Brothers take stop-motion follow-up 'The Ballad of the Phoenix' to Venice's financing market
Roy and Arturo Ambriz ('I Am Frankelda') are bringing their long-gestating stop-motion fantasy 'The Ballad of the Phoenix' to Venice's financing market. The film follows Virian, a fire-wielding princess who flees her soul-stealing father with her spirit guide Phoenix; Gael Garcia Bernal voices the lead and production designer Bruce Zick (The Lion King, Pocahontas, WALL-E) is designing its sets. Development began over a decade ago and was paused for the Cinema Fantasma series 'Frankelda's Book of Spooks' before resuming pre-production in mid-2026.
